Nearly Sane Trail Half Marathon (1:47:03; 21/283)

This is the only summer fun run event before the 50 mile race in September, 2015.
I had two options in mind based on my family's plan - do 20+ mile training run if I go alone; 2) do 13.1 if I am with my family. It turned out that my family wanted to come...

I didn't think much this event for racing this time for I simply need to run more mileage. So on Saturday, I did 1 hour run (7.2 mile) at a moderate pace. With the hot and humid weather over the summer in Chicago, I had been struggling with my training plans and physically felt weak. In any case, it's been over 2 months since my last race and so I was excited. It was a cool day (~70F), but I thought high humidity would be the killer.

The race day was with like almost 100% humidity. I ran on my altra superior with a hand-held water bottle. Maybe I thought 13.1 is a piece of cake.  Perhaps, it's not always true, esp., a harsh weather condition.  Yeah..I struggled at around mile 10.  I felt sluggish, but tried to hold on to what I could do considering the fact that only 3 miles left to go. So I did finish the race, but it was a definitely tough one. Would I consider to come back this race?  It was a well organized event and all the staffs did a great job! To me, I may focus more on a marathon distance than half.

In any case, it was nice to get out and run the trail.

Happy running!
